Critical Thinking #4

Lets see junk thoughts and distractions...I think the more interesting aspect would be to talk about distractions. Especially considering the fact that junk thoughts are just not that interesting or relevant to me. Anyways, a culture of distractions...so relevant to myself but I believe also for America. It is too easy to be distracted with so many things in life that differ things like homework, work, and even sleep. People would rather be distracted with what is on TV then get their responsibilities to get done. I think that distractions really add to procrastination. People would rather put off, which can be most important to them to the very last moment possible. I think that this is a problem for America because things dont get done. Also, since this nations culture is pretty much run by the young, it is constantly thrown around through distractions which leads to hurried work in every aspect of life in America. I think that people need to start focusing more on whats important, even though it is made so difficult in America.

I'm not really sure as to what junk thought is, my best guess is ideas or behaviors your participate in that make no sense or make you as a person look bad. The thoughts are worthless, and unable to be used in everyday life. My best guess to worthless thoughts would be thoughts that you have that no one agrees with or the person isn't even very confident in. If the thought is taken into consideration and proven wrong, the person who made the thought may try to avoid being claimed for the junk thought. If this is set to be true, I think that life should be about trial and error with experiences, so if a person was to have one of these thoughts, they should be proud to stick by their thoughts. If a person doesn't have confidence in trying something new or doing something out of the unordinary, then how can they excel in the future?

Critical Thinking Blog #3

The current youth pop culture compared to the past seems to be a big difference, especially according to jacoby. She was showing how in the past it was popular to dress casually, but then once young girls started to see people they admired dress differently they began starting to as well. I think these were the biggest similarities to now because young girls and boys do this today, but the difference now is kids in this generation are taking not just clothing into consideration, but also behaviors, attitudes, livelyhoods, etc. and they are being just like their favorite star. Because it is who they look up to and want to be like. Personally the way I dress and act are all according to my personal preferences. Yeah if I see that some star is wearing a shirt that I like I might get it, but behavior wise I am my own person, I make my own decisions, I think I know what is best for me, and if not I learn from it. I dont need to look at the pop culture for ideas on how to live my life. I admit it is very interesting to see what these "stars" are into, but I dont think living like them is the right choice for me.

Lets see I think that pop culture is very interesting. The things you hear about all these people who have it all, and are never happy, live crazy lives, on drugs, commit crimes its all entertaining to our everyday America, but I think it is kind of foolish. If I was payed millions of dollars to act or be an amazing musician I think I would be content enough with my self because I will be being payed well for doing what I love. I think the pop culture is just a little outrages sometimes. Popular culture to me is all celebrities and people who are made celebrities who are crazy like octo-mom. Musicians, Movie Stars, Sports Figures, are all subject to the pop culture, exspecially if they are making a point to be made apparent by continuously subjecting themselves to the media. I dont think that I particularly like our pop culture, but it is interesting sometimes to hear about the stories that are told, they make me laugh but mad and confused as well. My whole thing with it is why do you need to act like an idiot when you obviously have everything going for you?

Critical Thinking Blog #2

Ok lets see, evolution and creationism, always a fun topic to discuss. There are so many things that support and go along with both sides, its mind boggling. So, where I stand and why? Well i believe in both. I do truly believe that the earth and everything that inhabits it were created by god. I understand and believe scientifically that evolution is real and is a way of life, but what says god didnt create that as well. Lets say humans are derived from monkeys, my question is where did the monkeys come from? How did they now which species to evolve with? Why are environments different across the world, so that humans and animals evolve to them. Something just doesnt add up if it is all evolution based. I think the human body and its functions are too perfect to not be created by a god. They are made perfectly and thats how we survive. So, I really think both are true parts to life.

I think this issue is being brought up constantly. And even now, more and more I am hearing about as I continue my college career. I have heard several arguments for darwinism, that really set to be true, but also I have heard the otherside of creationism, that really makes senses and supports the theories. I think people should believe what they want. And if they are like me, they believe in an evolutionary creationism!

What do I think when I hear the word pseudoscience? Thats a good question especially considering the fact that I dont know much about it. From my understanding it is that something is presented as scientific, but really has no scientifical support. I think a lot of these things that people say are science like esp, telekinises, etc. are all someones beliefs, if they want to believe its real then so be it, but from a scientifical view there is no evidence that proves its real.

The argument between evolution and creationism I do have some ideas towards. I do believe that evolution is real among us. Everything in the world evolves and it has been proven. However, I dont think that evolution created mankind and that who inhabit it. My whole mindset with this is that, if humans derived from primates, where did the primates come from? Also another thing, how is that not only humans, but other species as well are made so perfectly? The human body was created perfectly. If we had one thing missing, like a spleen or something, we wouldnt survive. So I think that there is really something truly beyond us and evolution. If not, then how and why are we here today?

1. Critical thinking to me really is taking an idea or topic, researching, analyzing, applying, and evaluating it to a conclusion so that you have a relatively firm grasp about the idea or topic. Through the process it forces you to look at the idea or topic in different coming to a promising conclusion.

A time where I needed to participate in critical thinking that I can recall was when I was changing the water pump on my jeep, I had to completely tear apart the engine, and replace the fan belt. The water pump went on fine, but with the fan belt there were some issues. However, when I stopped, thought about the task at hand, looked into some info, did some trial and error, I finally found the niche I was looking for concluding my problem and completing my objective. I have had several times when I didn't think through things critically, just this morning going to school, I took the Rocklin Rd. exit, knowing to myself there would be a ton of traffic, and I could possibly be late to class, I took the exit, not even thinking about another option, and evaluating the benefits of driving down one exit to Sierra College blvd. where there is no traffic.

2. Intellectualism I think really has a positive connotation. Using your intellect and intelligence to help you go through a thinking process really is a necessity. They are measured not really on how much you know, but you have the ability to find the right answer. So with this your reasoning behind your thoughts are made true.
Logic and Reason I also believe to be positives. With these you really investigate deep into the reasoning behind what you are thinking. While doing this you can find out more information that can be positive or negative for you, but the understanding that you get from your reasoning is a benefit to you.
